Blackberry Ltd. (BBRY), the telecommunication and wireless equipment company run by CEO John Chen, has sold its USB power patent portfolio to a private-equity firm for $30 million, according to people familiar.

The buyer was not disclosed by the people familiar.

The deal was handled by Ocean Tomo.

Waterloo, Ontario-based Blackberry didn’t return several emails and telephone calls seeking comment. Chicago-based Ocean Tomo declined to comment.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Dec. 17 recorded an assignment of a patent for a charger system and method on Nov. 17 from Blackberry to Fundamental Innovation Systems International LLC, care of TnT IP LLC, the IP advisory business founded by Craig Thompson and Ozer Teitelbaum, formerly with Alcatel-Lucent.

Thompson declined to comment.
