WiLAN Inc. (WILN), the patent licensing company run by CEO Jim Skippen, said Chinese telecommunication giant ZTE Corp. has entered into a multi-year license agreement with WiLAN covering wireless technologies, the terms of which were not disclosed.
“This license renews our former agreement with ZTE signed several years ago,” Skippen said in a statement. “The re-signing of ZTE to our portfolio of wireless patents is further confirmation of the value of our portfolio.”
The licensing deal with ZTE comes as Ottawa, Ontario-based WiLAN has been researching China fairly extensively with an eye on bringing infringement actions involving Chinese patents against Western companies in Chinese courts.
In June, Skippen told The Patent Investor "the result of our research is that we expect to be starting some enforcement actions very soon in China. We expect to be working with Chinese partners, including universities and companies.”
